A known serial sex offender, Simon Robertson, aged 51 and residing on Coley Lane in Chilbolton, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences involving both an adult and a child. The conviction was secured at Reading Crown Court on Friday, 27 January.
Roberson was convicted on several counts, including one of rape against an adult, one of rape against a child, and three counts of sexual activity with a female child. The offences against the adult victim occurred in Haringey, North London, between January 2001 and May 2003. The crimes involving the child took place in Maidenhead, Berkshire, from May 2013 to June 2014.
A unanimous jury found Robertson guilty after a three-week trial. Detective Constable Victoria Steele from the Thames Valley Police Child Abuse Investigation Unit commented, “This was a lengthy and complex investigation carried out by the Child Abuse Investigation Unit and the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit concerning serious sexual assaults on victims chosen due to their vulnerability.”
She added, “As a result of the abuse, the victims and their families have suffered long-term and ongoing effects. The high sentence reflects the severity of the offences committed by Robertson and the danger he poses to women.”
Regarding the impact on the victims, Det Const Steele said, “The victims in this case had to relive the trauma of the abuse because Robertson did not enter a plea of guilty. However, their evidence was compelling.”
She praised their bravery, stating, “The victims have shown extraordinary courage, and thanks to their efforts, Robertson now faces many years behind bars.” Steele expressed hope that this verdict provides a sense of justice and a positive outlook for the victims’ futures.
“Robertson is a serial sex offender who poses a significant and serious threat to women. He will rightly spend a very long time in prison,” she concluded.
