WEST LONDON MAN JAILED FOR LINKED RAPE CASES AND ABUSE
A man from Shepherd’s Bush, Simon Charles aged 46, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences. The charges included rape, attempted rape, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, and voyeurism.
Charles was taken into custody on 7 February 2023, and after a detailed investigation managed by Detective Constable Stephanie Clarke, he appeared at Isleworth Crown Court and received his sentence on 19 April 2024.
The proceedings involved two victims: one who accused Charles of attempting to rape her in 2021, and another who alleged that he had drugged her before assaulting her at his home in November 2022.
Investigative evidence showed that Charles cultivated trust with both women, encouraging them to visit his residence while intoxicated.
Both victims indicated they did not consent to the acts committed, felt vulnerable, and had fallen asleep only to wake up to sexual assault.
The court also imposed restraining orders to prevent any contact between Charles and the victims.
During sentencing, the prosecution acknowledged the victims' bravery and stressed the importance of timely reporting of such crimes, with authorities emphasizing their dedication to pursuing justice irrespective of how much time has elapsed.
This case highlights the role of Clare’s Law, which allows individuals to check whether their partner has a criminal history related to violence or abuse.
