WELLS MAN SIMON BREWETT SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGE DOWNLOADS IN DEVON

A stern warning was issued by a judge to Simon Brewett, a resident of Wells, after he was convicted of possessing and downloading indecent images of children.

The court expressed the hope that Brewett, aged 38, would be haunted by nightmares each night as a consequence of his actions.

During the trial, it was revealed that Brewett was found in possession of over 100 images and videos depicting minors, some of which featured girls under the age of 13.

The evidence indicated a disturbing collection that included explicit material involving very young children.

Brewett admitted to downloading the illicit content, explaining that his actions were linked to personal difficulties he was experiencing at the time.

In sentencing, the court imposed a three-year supervision order on Brewett.

This order requires him to participate in a sexual offenders treatment programme, aimed at addressing his behaviour and preventing future offenses.

Additionally, Brewett was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, a measure intended to monitor and manage his conduct moving forward.

As part of the penalties, Brewett was also ordered to forfeit his computer, which was used to download the illegal material.

Furthermore, he was instructed to pay costs associated with the case, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his crimes.

The judge’s remarks highlighted the gravity of the offense and the importance of ongoing supervision to protect the community from potential harm.
