BOREHAMWOOD MAN FIGHTS TO OVERTURN RAPE CONVICTION
A man named Sidney Winson from Ripon Way, Borehamwood, was convicted of oral rape and sentenced to five years imprisonment at St Albans Crown Court after the conviction in December of the previous year. The prosecution's case involved Winson and an accomplice allegedly taking turns to perform oral sex on a woman after inviting her to a hotel, with each claiming that the woman consented.
Winson's case was heard in London's Appeal Court, where he sought permission to contest his conviction.
The judge, Sir Peter Cresswell, noted that Winson claimed the woman initiated the sexual act, which she denied.
Winson’s legal team argued that his conviction was 'unsafe' due to inconsistent jury verdicts on the charges.
The court considered this argument and granted him permission to appeal, although no date was set for the full hearing.
