SHERIDAN GREER: BURNLEY WOOD DOG KILLER STRIKES AGAIN IN LANCASHIRE

Sheridan 'Shez' Greer, born on November 21, 1991, has once again made headlines for her involvement in a shocking case of animal cruelty that took place in Burnley, Lancashire. Her most recent known address was on Wellington Street in Barnoldswick, but as of January 2020, she was believed to be residing on Parkinson Street in Burnley Wood, Burnley. This case involves the tragic neglect and death of two dogs, which Greer deliberately left to suffer in her home.

Greer was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to her two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, named Patch and Duke. The horrific details emerged when authorities, including police and RSPCA inspectors, raided her residence in Burnley Wood. They discovered the emaciated bodies of the dogs dumped in the backyard, surrounded by bags of rubbish. The dogs had been left without food or water for an extended period, leading to their tragic deaths.

According to reports, Greer had moved out of her terrace house in Burnley following a breakup with her boyfriend. She claimed to the RSPCA that her financial difficulties, caused by a reduction in her benefits, prevented her from caring for her pets. She admitted to locking the dogs in the kitchen without providing any sustenance, and she explained that she was unable to cope with their care after her benefits were cut and her relationship ended.

Despite her claims of hardship, Greer did not seek help or contact authorities for assistance. Instead, she abandoned her pets, leaving them to fend for themselves for approximately four weeks. During this time, the dogs desperately scavenged through bin bags and attempted to eat from empty tin cans and old dishcloths, signs of their severe starvation and distress. The post-mortem examination revealed that both dogs weighed only 11 kilograms at the time of death, which was 20% less than their healthy weight of 14 kilograms. Inspector Lyndsey Taylor from the RSPCA described the scene as appalling, noting the overpowering smell and the shocking mess in the kitchen.

Inspector Taylor stated, “The scene in the house was appalling. The smell was overpowering and the mess was shocking. In the kitchen, the two dogs had been left without any food or water. It seems the dogs had got into the bin, and it was clear they were so hungry that they had tried to eat dog food tins. There were rags in their system, which showed they had resorted to eating dishcloths or other similar items. Leaving those dogs to starve to death is a heartless and callous thing to do. They would have died a slow and painful death.”

She further added, “Seeing those dogs when we first went to the house is an image that will stay with me forever. The dogs had died in the kitchen and were then discarded like rubbish. We understand that after she moved out, she continued to return to the property but still allowed her pets to suffer and die.”

Remarkably, Greer’s two pet cats survived the ordeal, managing to fend for themselves during the four-week period of neglect. The cats were rescued when authorities arrived, and they are now safe, having escaped the same fate as the dogs.

Neighbors of Greer expressed their outrage and disgust at her actions. One told the Daily Mail, “What she did to those poor animals was a dreadful thing. She should have got a prison sentence.” Another neighbor added, “She’s known as the dog killer around here. My daughter went to the school nearby with her daughter, and they found out what was happening in her house because her daughter wasn’t going to school. The teachers came around and saw the mess—faeces everywhere and some cats. The RSPCA and police then arrived and removed the cats, which were still alive, thank God. The dogs were found in the dustbin outside. It’s just disgusting.”

In court, Greer received an 18-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to pay £200 in court costs and was given a lifetime ban on keeping any animals. This case highlights the ongoing issue of animal cruelty and neglect in the Lancashire area, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and awareness to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
