MAN THREATENED TO KILL EX AND HER NEW BOYFRIEND'S KIDS
A man was imprisoned after making threats to harm his ex-girlfriend, her new partner, and the children of that partner.Sheffron Powell, aged 33 from Willow Grove in Chislehurst, received a sentence of two years and three months at the Old Bailey last Wednesday, September 24.
He admitted to charges of stalking and uttering death threats, with his ex-girlfriend the mother of his children being the victim in both cases.
Prosecutor Sam Lubner explained that on June 8, she notified him about her new partner.
On June 17, Powell left a voicemail threatening that he would obtain a gun and come to her residence, Mr.
Lubner added.
In the following weeks, Powell made 134 phone calls to her, leaving messages in which he threatened to kill her new partner, his children, and anyone who might intervene, saying, “I will kill him, his baby and his children, I’m going to kill anyone who gets in my way”.
He also told his own daughter that “some guys will be round soon, something very dangerous will happen” and “if daddy goes away for a very long time don’t hate me, daddy will kill this man”.
Powell was finally arrested on July 10 after he forcibly entered the victim’s home while she was away.
She described feeling paranoid at that time, worried he might show up, and admitted to feeling anxious even when stepping outside her front door.
The defendant had six prior convictions, including harassment against the same woman.
In his mitigation, solicitor Sophia Kerridge mentioned that Powell’s mental health had deteriorated during the year preceding the offense.
“His contact with his children was significantly reduced and he hadn’t had direct contact for over a year when this happened,” Ms Kerridge said.
“His children were very important to him.
It is not an excuse but that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Judge Philip Katz KC, who handed down the sentence, condemned Powell’s conduct as “absolutely disgraceful.”
