CONSTRUCTION BOSS SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON WIFE
A construction boss named Shaun McCallion has been imprisoned after a violent assault on his wife, Victoria, at their £700,000 mansion. The incident took place after a boozy Valentine's Day argument in February 2020, during which McCallion brutally attacked his wife by smashing her head through a window, exposing her skull.
The court heard that McCallion, 44, was intoxicated and had previously assaulted his wife in 2016.
On the night of the attack, he became enraged when Victoria refused to clean up his sick, ripping the toilet seat off and attempting to remove the bathroom door before shoving her head into a glass window with such force that her skull was exposed.
The injury was described by Judge Andrew Lockhart QC as not an accident but a serious wound going through the skin and exposing the bone.
McCallion initially claimed she fell into the window but later pleaded guilty.
Despite her pleas for mercy, he was sentenced to 18 months in jail at Coventry Crown Court.
During the sentencing, the judge emphasized the severity of her injuries, stating, "The wound was the whole thickness of the skin, exposing the skull below.
The risk of permanent scarring was present, but it has almost disappeared." When led away, Victoria shouted for her family to listen, asserting that the incident was not helping anyone.
The court also noted McCallion's previous convictions for assaulting his wife and detailed the events leading up to the injury, including her call for help and treatment for her injuries.
McCallion, who claimed his wife said the injury was an accident, expressed remorse, stating he has not drank alcohol since and has engaged a new employee to manage stress at work.
The case highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help, with advice from organizations like Women’s Aid and SupportLine for victims.
