SHAUN CARTER FROM SEATON ROSS FOUND GUILTY OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN HULL COURT

In a case that has shocked the local community of Seaton Ross and the surrounding areas near Holme on Spalding Moor, Shaun Matthew Carter, aged 39, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young boy. The conviction was handed down after a three-day trial at Hull Crown Court, where the jury deliberated on multiple charges against Carter, a call centre worker by profession.

During the proceedings, the jury found Carter guilty of two counts of sexual assault on a boy under the age of 13. These convictions mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse. However, the jury also acquitted Carter of two additional counts of sexual assault on the same minor, indicating that the evidence did not support those particular charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

Following the verdict, Judge David Tremberg sentenced Carter to eight months in prison. The judge specified that Carter would be required to serve half of this sentence before being eligible for parole or release, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes committed.

In his defense, Carter attempted to deny any physical contact with the young boy, claiming that the accusations stemmed from a misunderstanding. He told police that the only reason he could think of for the allegations was that the boy had previously asked him if he was gay. Carter insisted that he had no interest in minors and expressed his love for his long-term partner, stating, “I love my partner very much and have been with him for a long time. I don’t understand where this has come from. It came as a massive shock.”

Details emerged during the trial indicating that the young boy first confided in his father, revealing that Carter’s facial expression when he was touched was something he would never forget. The boy later confided in a teacher, who observed that he appeared “clearly upset” and was “teary-eyed” when recounting the incident.

When Carter took the stand as a witness, prosecutor Andrew Semple questioned him about whether he had told the boy “don’t do this to me” because he was tempted. Carter denied ever making such a statement. Witness testimonies also described Carter as “arrogant” and “full of himself” when intoxicated, providing insight into his character.

This case was not Carter’s first appearance in Hull Crown Court. In 2016, he was acquitted of charges related to the rape of a teenager and a separate sexual assault on a boy after a five-day trial. The jury at that time was informed that a girl involved in the case had received a police caution for making false representations to purchase mobile phone credit. The prosecution did not proceed with charges until a boy came forward with allegations of sexual assault, which Carter denied, claiming the boy was simply picking on him and making remarks about his sexuality. The 2016 trial concluded with Carter being cleared of all charges, but the recent convictions mark a significant and troubling chapter in his legal history.
