Hawick Gorebridge Rapist
A man with a troubling history of violence and sexual assault has been sentenced to seven years in prison after a series of heinous crimes committed against women in the Midlothian area, specifically in Gorebridge and Hawick. Shane Ramsay, who was once a stock car racer, was convicted of multiple serious offences that spanned several years, revealing a disturbing pattern of brutality and sexual violence.
Ramsay's criminal activities date back to when he was just 15 years old, marking the beginning of a long and troubling trajectory of violence. His first known assault involved forcing his way into a bathroom where he attacked a woman by hitting her on the head with force. This early incident was a precursor to the more severe crimes he would commit later in his life.
The most egregious of his offences occurred in Gorebridge, where Ramsay repeatedly raped two women at an address. The court heard that Ramsay's actions were not isolated incidents but part of a series of violent assaults that took place over several years. Despite denying many of the charges, Ramsay was found guilty of two counts of rape, committed in 2014 and 2016, as well as three other assaults that occurred between 2011 and 2016.
One of the victims described a terrifying encounter where Ramsay grabbed her by the hair, slammed her head against a wall, and held a knife to her neck. During this assault, he also struck her repeatedly on the leg with a fishing rod and kicked her while she was holding a young boy, her child. Another woman recounted being pushed against a door, bitten on the head and body, and subjected to a series of violent acts including being butted, punched, and pulled by her hair.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of Ramsay's brutality and the fear he instilled in his victims. The judge, Lord Boyd of Duncansby, addressed Ramsay directly, noting that despite the jury's verdict, the defendant continued to maintain his innocence, claiming that the allegations were false. Ramsay had also told the author of a background report that the accusations were
