SHANE KELLETT FROM NEWTOWN ST BOSWELLS CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE BORDERS

In a recent court ruling, Shane Kellett, a 23-year-old resident of Newtown St Boswells, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in the Borders region. The incident, which took place last year, led to a jury trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where Kellett faced the charges after initially denying any involvement.

Despite his denial, the court convicted Kellett of the offence, and the sentencing included a series of measures aimed at both punishment and rehabilitation. Instead of serving time behind bars, Kellett was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid community work, a decision that serves as an alternative to incarceration. Additionally, he was subjected to a night-time curfew from 8 pm to 6 am, restricting his movements during those hours.

Furthermore, Kellett was mandated to pay a total of £2,000 in compensation to his victim, with payments scheduled at £300 per month. This financial restitution is intended to provide some form of redress for the harm caused. The court also imposed a non-harassment order, which prohibits Kellett from making any contact with the woman involved in the case for a period of five years.

It is noteworthy that Kellett, who was formerly residing in Galashiels, provided an address in Newtown St Boswells at the time of the trial. His conviction underscores the ongoing efforts of the judicial system to address sexual offences and ensure appropriate consequences for offenders within the Borders community.
