Addlestone Child Sexual Abuser
In a serious case that has shocked the local community of Addlestone, Sergiu Popovici, a 31-year-old resident of Hollies Court in Addlestone, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of disturbing crimes involving indecent images of children. The offences spanned over a period of more than four years, during which Popovici engaged in the creation, possession, and distribution of illicit material involving minors.

Popovici appeared before Guildford Crown Court on Monday, May 18, where he faced multiple charges related to his actions. The court heard that he was responsible for six separate counts of sexual offences, including the production and possession of indecent images of children, as well as indecent exposure. The details of these charges reveal a disturbing pattern of behavior that persisted over several years.

The first count involved Popovici taking indecent photographs of a child between September 2, 2018, and September 7, 2019. The second and third counts detailed his efforts in creating indecent images of a child, with activities recorded between April 14, 2015, and January 26, 2019. The fourth count further implicated him in making indecent images of a child, with the relevant period spanning from June 27, 2014, to March 25, 2019. These dates highlight a prolonged period during which he engaged in these criminal acts.

Additional charges included possession of an extreme pornographic image on April 24, 2018, which underscores the severity of the material involved. The final count related to indecent exposure, which occurred between July 14, 2016, and February 9, 2017, adding to the gravity of his offences.

Following his conviction, Popovici was sentenced to 14 months in prison. The court also imposed a stringent 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), designed to restrict his future conduct and protect the community. As part of the sentencing, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100. Furthermore, authorities issued a deprivation order, confiscating his electronic devices, including his laptop, mobile phone, camera, and hard drive, which were believed to contain evidence related to his crimes.

In addition to his imprisonment and restrictions, Popovici was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade. The court also explicitly barred him from working with children, a measure aimed at preventing any potential future harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
