BRIGHTON EX-POLICE OFFICER SEXUALLY HARASSED COLLEAGUE WITH SUGGESTIVE MESSAGES
A police officer sexually harassed a female colleague by sending sexually suggestive text messages while on and off duty on April 23, 2021.The officer involved was Ex-Detective Sergeant Seb Day, aged 39, who was based at Brighton and Hove division.
He was the subject of a misconduct hearing on September 15 at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes.
The allegations against him amounted to a breach of professional standards relating to authority, respect, and courtesy, as well as discreditable conduct.
Once the allegations were reported, he was suspended and an investigation was launched.
Seb Day resigned from the police force in November 2022 before any dismissal could be enacted.
The misconduct panel found the sexual harassment allegation proven, which was classified as gross misconduct.
Had he not resigned, he would have been dismissed from the force.
He will now be listed on the College of Policing Barred list, preventing any future return to policing.
Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme emphasized that police officers must behave professionally both on and off duty to maintain public confidence and respect for the force.
