HULL MAN SEAN ROSS JAILED FOR VICIOUS ASSAULT ON STEPSON
A 38-year-old man named Sean Ross, residing on Brompton Close in Hull, was given a one-year prison sentence after committing a violent assault on his stepson. The incident unfolded in Hull when Ross lost control and violently struck his stepson’s head against a street kerb.
Witnesses described the attack as aggressive and relentless, noting that Ross dragged his victim across the street before repeatedly smashing his head into the pavement.
The injured boy, who was intoxicated and lying in a vomit-filled street, later visited Ross’s home, where Ross appeared and began punching him.
After knocking him down, Ross taunted, saying, “You’re not the big man now, are you?” He then continued his assault by dragging his stepson and inflicting serious injuries, including a head wound, black eyes, neck pain, and issues with vision.
Police officers found Ross in a drunken state, slurring his speech.
Ross’s criminal record includes 13 convictions dating back to 2011, notably a 2007 conviction for assault causing actual bodily harm.
During court hearings, his lawyer argued that the incident was provoked and described it as a moment of “utter madness” caused by ongoing problems with the victim and other issues.
Judge Sophie McKone condemned Ross’s violent actions, emphasizing that “matters got completely and utterly out of hand” and highlighting the extreme danger of striking someone’s head against a kerb, which could have resulted in death or serious injury.
She also remarked that Ross showed little remorse and lacked self-control when upset.
The court sentenced Ross, a self-employed tiler, to a year behind bars, as the assault was considered too serious for suspension, given the potential harm to the victim.
