East Kilbride Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the community of East Kilbride and the surrounding areas, Sean Kelly, a 49-year-old man from Ivanhoe in St Leonards, was sentenced to a total of 19 months in prison for his involvement in the sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy. The offences took place over a span of several months, with Kelly meeting the young victim at various locations, including an address in Glasgow’s Kinning Park.

The court heard that the abuse occurred on multiple occasions between January 1 and July 5, 2015. Kelly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the boy during these encounters, which were carried out at different times and locations. The court was also informed of additional allegations that Kelly had communicated with the teenager on several occasions from September 2014 through July 2015, with the apparent intent of engaging in unlawful sexual activity. However, Kelly denied these communication charges, and the prosecutor accepted his denial.

During the proceedings at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Kelly’s legal representative explained that his client suffers from mobility issues. The defence also stated that Kelly chose to plead guilty to avoid forcing the young victim to endure the trauma of giving evidence in court. Despite his plea, Kelly was sentenced to one year and seven months in prison. Furthermore, upon his release, he will be subject to a further nine months on license, ensuring close supervision of his activities.

In addition to his prison sentence, Sheriff Potten ordered Kelly to be registered as a sex offender for a period of ten years. This measure is intended to protect the community and prevent any future offences. The case has once again highlighted the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable young individuals from exploitation and abuse, especially in communities like East Kilbride and Glasgow where such incidents have occurred.
