CHORLEYWOOD MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND HARASSMENT
Charles Vance, a resident of Stag Lane in Chorleywood, received a prison sentence of two years and four months at St Albans Crown Court last Friday (May 10) for conspiracy to stalk, which involved instilling fear through threats of violence. The 43-year-old, who falsely claimed to be a victim of the same stalker and reported fabricated individuals to the police, was also sentenced to an additional eight months for obstructing justice, with this term running concurrently.
Additionally, he was issued a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the complainant.
Over a period from April 23, 2022, to January 28, 2023, the victim was bombarded with hundreds of text messages and phone calls, many containing violent threats.
She received messages promising to impregnate her child and death threats from an individual called 'Hannah'.
Unknown to her at the time, a tracking device was placed on her vehicle to monitor her whereabouts and exacerbate her terror.
The court revealed that on February 5, 2022, a lighter was delivered through her letterbox, followed by a package of white lilies symbolizing death on February 8, 2022.
On March 4, 2022, offensive graffiti was sprayed on her car, and her vehicle’s windows were broken on April 2, 2022.
Vance also brought in accomplices—Sean Kellard, 32, from Newton Road in Newbury; Ryan Burton, 25, from Mount Pleasant Lane in Bricket Wood, St Albans; and David Black, 30, of Anglefield Road in Caversham, Reading—to continue harassing the victim.
Kellard, who was sentenced to 21 months in prison, was paid by Vance to make numerous threatening phone calls pretending to be 'Hannah’s brother'.
During these calls, Kellard advanced threats and claimed to be sitting on a bench outside her home, waiting for her.
His role in the campaign of intimidation was significant, involving threats and harassment that contributed to the pattern of fear inflicted on the victim.
