BROUGHTON MAN HANDED DISCHARGE AFTER ASSAULT AT MCDONALD'S DRIVE-THRU
A man who assaulted his girlfriend at a McDonald's drive-thru has received a conditional discharge from the court.Sean Jones, aged 39 and residing on Willow Way in Broughton, appeared before Mold Magistrates Court on Monday.
He admitted to assaulting Joanne Borland on June 4 at a McDonald's outlet in Northop.
The court was informed by prosecutor Sarah Marsh that the incident was reported after two staff members at the drive-thru observed the assault.
They saw Jones, a passenger in the vehicle, grab Ms.
Borland's arm and then punch it as the vehicle proceeded through the drive-thru lane.
Police intercepted the vehicle not far from the scene on the A55 and saw that Ms.
Borland was distressed, although she declined to make a formal complaint.
Defence solicitor Melissa Griffiths explained that Jones was off work due to an injury at the time, and that he and his partner had been attending the bingo and wanted a quick meal afterwards.
Jones admitted to alcohol consumption that evening.
The court also heard that Ms.
Borland had missed a turning, resulting in her driving into a one-way street, which led to Jones’s frustration.
Ms.
Griffiths stated that Jones regrets his actions and has suffered damage to his reputation.
Judge Nick Colbourne described the incident as "unsavoury" but noted Jones’s clean past record as this was his first appearance in court.
He was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 in costs plus a £22 victim surcharge.
