2010: KATES HILL MAN JAILED FOR ATTACKING MOTHER
A man aged 22 from Kates Hill, Scott Woodall, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after a violent incident involving his mother.He was accused of assaulting her with punches and kicks, scratching her arms while swinging a sharp-leafed potted plant, and threatening her with a kitchen knife.
Judge John Maxwell described the event as severe enough to warrant immediate custody.
In court at Wolverhampton Crown, the judge stated that although the knife did not harm anyone physically, it added to the victim's fear and was an integral part of the incident.
Prosecutor Julian Elcock recounted that Betty Wakeman had explicitly told her son not to come to her home when he arrived in the early morning with his girlfriend.
The court revealed that Woodall left the property but became furious when he returned to retrieve his girlfriend’s phone, which Mrs.
Wakeman pushed through the letterbox.
In retaliation, Woodall kicked the front door off its hinges, damaging the security chain, and then launched a violent assault on his mother, including kicking, punching, and spitting in her face.
He was also intoxicated at the time and damaged her telephone while she was calling the police, along with causing further property damage valued at £195.
Mrs.
Wakeman stated in a police victim statement that the incident made her feel "scared and fearful," and she no longer wished to see her son at her residence.
Woodall pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage, tearing up as he was led away to serve his sentence.
His defense attorney, Anthony Potter, expressed that Woodall sincerely regretted his actions and sought to mend his relationship with his mother.
He acknowledged that Woodall was generally calm and that his violent behavior was uncharacteristic.
The judge remarked that the outburst was triggered when his mother returned the mobile phone via the letterbox.
The court concluded that Woodall forcibly entered her home, assaulted her physically, and brandished a knife in a threatening manner.
Consequently, he was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
