Mansfield Animal Abuser
Scott Weatherer, a resident of Mansfield, specifically from Highfield Road, Clipstone Village, faced a serious legal case in connection with a brutal incident involving a defenseless animal. On Monday, May 20, 2019, Weatherer appeared before Lincoln Magistrates' Court to answer charges related to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, specifically a cocker spaniel named Bella.

According to court reports, the incident, which was described as a 'horrible attack,' occurred on December 22, 2018, in the area of Bassingham Fen, near Aubourn. The details of the attack revealed a disturbing act of cruelty inflicted upon the innocent dog, which has since garnered significant concern from animal welfare advocates and the local community.

During the proceedings, magistrates considered Weatherer's previous good character and his history of caring for dogs, which led them to treat the offence as a one-off incident rather than a pattern of behavior. Despite the severity of the attack, the court acknowledged these factors in their sentencing decision.

Weatherer was handed an 18-week prison sentence, which was suspended for a period of 18 months. Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs and charges amounting to £615. A significant aspect of the sentence was a ban on keeping animals, which will last for ten years, expiring in June 2029. This measure aims to prevent any future harm to animals and underscores the seriousness with which the court viewed this case.

The case has been widely reported by LincolnshireLive and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal protection laws and the consequences of cruelty towards animals in the Mansfield area and beyond.
