In August 2017, authorities in the Highlands of Scotland launched a detailed investigation into allegations of possession of indecent images of children. The investigation culminated in a police raid at the residence of Scott Russell, a 25-year-old man residing in Drumnadrochit, a village situated near Loch Ness.
On the day of the operation, police officers, acting on intelligence gathered on November 30 of the previous year, arrived at Russell's home located at The Fioch, Balmachan Road. Armed with a search warrant, the officers conducted a thorough search of the premises, which led to the immediate confession of Russell regarding the possession of illicit material.
According to Procurator Fiscal Roderick Urquhart, Russell voluntarily admitted to viewing indecent images on his tablet device. He reportedly told the officers,
