EX-SOLDIER GUILTY OF STALKING EX WITH GPS DEVICE
A former soldier named Scott McNee, aged 44, was found to have planted a tracking device on his partner's car in an attempt to monitor her movements.McNee claimed he was worried for her safety, believing she was meeting people to take drugs.
However, he pleaded guilty to stalking Sharon Carr between the 7th and 10th of September.
During the court proceedings at Livingston Sheriff Court, he was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work under a community payback order.
The court heard that McNee used his army training to track her, and he admitted purchasing and placing the GPS device without her knowledge.
The incident escalated when he unexpectedly arrived at a pub car park and discovered she was meeting a former boyfriend.
Ms Carr called the police, and officers found a hidden GPS device on her vehicle.
The prosecution revealed McNee was aware of her movements due to the tracker he installed.
McNee admitted the offense, which was aggravated by the abuse of his ex-partner in West Lothian and Fife.
His defense argued that his actions were driven by fears related to drug use, not controlling behavior, although the court recognized the behavior as extreme and controlling.
Sheriff Kevin Drummond emphasized that, while McNee claimed he acted out of concern, the behavior was inappropriate, and he was sentenced to serve his sentence outside of custody because the relationship had ended.
