SCOTT BRANSON FROM IRONVILLE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO SCHOOLGIRLS IN LEICESTERSHIRE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Scott Branson, a 46-year-old man from Ironville, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for the sexual abuse of two young girls. The offenses took place over a span of several years and involved disturbing acts of grooming and indecency.Branson pleaded guilty to two counts of gross indecency involving one girl, who was between the ages of seven and nine at the time of the abuse. Additionally, he admitted to two separate charges of sexual assault against a second girl, who was 15 years old during the incident. The court heard that these offenses occurred in different locations within Leicestershire, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned multiple years.
During the sentencing hearing at Leicester Crown Court, Judge Philip Head addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Branson’s actions. The judge explained that Branson had systematically groomed the younger girl through inappropriate sexualized behavior, which eventually escalated to him making her touch him indecently. The judge remarked, “What you did has affected every aspect of her life in a most profound way, and that’s clear from her victim impact statement.”
Prosecutor Steven Lowne provided details about the incident involving the older girl, revealing that the abuse occurred during a single night when both the victim and Branson happened to be staying at the same accommodation. According to the court, Branson climbed into bed with her in the early morning hours while she was asleep. She awoke to find him touching her indecently over her nightclothes. When she confronted him, Branson immediately ceased his actions and left the scene. Later, he sent her an apology note, which was presented as evidence during the trial.
Judge Head, addressing Branson directly, stated, “Only a prison sentence can be imposed because of the gravity of what you did.” Branson’s address was listed as Coach Road, Codnor Park, Ironville, Derbyshire. The court noted that one of the victims was abused in 2000, while the other was victimized between 1998 and 2001, indicating a prolonged period of offending.
The youngest victim has since undergone counseling, and her suffering has significantly impacted her ability to form relationships and cope with anxiety. Mr. Lowne highlighted her ongoing struggles, saying, “She hopes after today she can put the matter behind her.”
Defense attorney Jacqui Callan acknowledged Branson’s cooperation, stating, “He was frank with the police and made admissions at the police station.” She also pointed out that a custodial sentence would result in the loss of his job and home, which would be difficult for him to recover from. Callan noted that Branson is currently in a relationship, but emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, particularly the grooming element and the victims’ ages.
Both victims were present in court to witness the sentencing. They chose not to comment publicly after the proceedings, but their presence underscored the gravity of the case and the impact of Branson’s actions on their lives.
