SERIAL RAPIST HANDED 27-YEAR SENTENCE
A man convicted of multiple sexual assaults, described as a serial rapist operating over an extended period, has received a 27-year sentence for his crimes.Saul Rowan Henvey, aged 47 from the Tregaron area, was first taken into custody in May 2021 following a report from a woman who was assaulted in a woodland near Lampeter.
The court was told that Henvey met the woman, took her into the woods for a picnic, professed his love to her, and then assaulted her.
Following this incident, Henvey fled the scene, prompting a police manhunt conducted by Dyfed-Powys Police.
He was later located and charged with that rape and remanded into custody.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered another allegation of rape dating back to 2019, which had not been pursued initially due to evidential issues.
This earlier victim recounted that Henvey approached her when she was alone outside her home in Lampeter.
She mentioned feeling manipulated before ultimately reporting the incident in 2020.
Additionally, another woman reported being raped by Henvey in the Llanddewi Brefi area between March and April of 2021.
She stated that Henvey approached her and convinced her to let him stay at her house under the pretense of being homeless.
She further reported waking up on two occasions to find Henvey raping her as she slept.
Senior investigating officer DI Adam Cann emphasised the importance of victims reporting sexual assaults, explaining that initial lack of evidence prevented justice for the first victim.
However, Henvey’s pattern of offending ultimately allowed the case to be proven and the jury to convict him.
At Swansea Crown Court, a judge sentenced Henvey to a 27-year extended sentence, comprising 21 years in prison followed by six years on licence.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and to abide by an indefinite restraining order protecting each victim.
Henvey is set to serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible to apply for parole.
DI Adam Cann expressed relief at the sentence, stating it offers some comfort to the victims and underscores police commitment to tackling such crimes.
He highlighted the bravery of the victims in coming forward and reassures the public that Dyfed-Powys Police will continue to pursue justice for victims of sexual violence, reaffirming that such crimes are not tolerated.
