SAMUEL WHITBY FROM WESTON POINT SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN RUNCORN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Weston Point and the wider Runcorn area, Samuel Whitby, aged 26, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous crimes involving online child exploitation and abuse. The proceedings took place at Chester Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details about Whitby's actions and the evidence that led to his conviction.

Whitby, who resides at Beacon Hill View in Weston Point, engaged in a disturbing pattern of online grooming and solicitation over a period spanning from September 2014 to January 2017. His methods involved using popular messaging platforms such as Yahoo chat, email, and Kik Messenger to contact and manipulate young teenagers, primarily aged between 13 and 16. The court was informed that Whitby attempted to coerce these minors into performing sexual acts on camera, with some requests being of the most serious and depraved nature.

One of the most shocking allegations involved Whitby urging a young boy to drug his sister, who was 21 years old, with the intent that she be sexually assaulted while unconscious. This particular request was part of the series of disturbing communications that Whitby engaged in, which demonstrated a clear pattern of predatory behavior. The court heard that Whitby’s online contacts included at least ten individuals who claimed to be between 13 and 16 years old, although it was never definitively established whether these individuals were actually the ages they claimed to be, as they did not come forward to verify their identities.

Whitby pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. One of these counts involved two internet users, aged 13 and 14, who reported that Whitby had made requests for the most serious sexual acts. Additionally, he admitted to nine counts related to communications with purported teenagers, all of whom were said to be between 13 and 16 years old.

Further charges included the distribution of indecent images. Whitby admitted to possessing and sharing a significant number of such images, including 89 of the most severe Category A images, 58 in Category B, and 30 in Category C. He also possessed six prohibited images involving cartoon or CGI characters. These offenses spanned over two years, from September 2014 to January 2017.

Prosecutor Mandy Nepal outlined to the court that Whitby’s mobile phone was seized during a police search of his property in January 2017. Analysis of the device uncovered hundreds of abusive images and videos, some lasting over two minutes, depicting children as young as two years old and up to 15 years old. The investigation also revealed that Whitby’s web browsing history included visits to websites featuring erotic fiction, fantasy stories, and incest-themed content, further illustrating his disturbing sexual interests.

During police interviews, Whitby claimed to feel disgusted about viewing the images and suggested that he did not believe the teenage boys he communicated with were as young as they claimed. However, the evidence against him was overwhelming, and the court found him guilty of all charges.

Judge Patrick Thompson sentenced Samuel Whitby to four years and six months in prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, Whitby was handed a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and to pay a victim surcharge of £1,700. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
