SAMUEL OMAR FROM SEMILONG SHOCKS NORTHAMPTON WITH REPEATED CHILD SEX OFFENSES
In a disturbing series of events that highlight the devastating impact of judicial delays and the failure of the justice system to prevent repeat offenders from harming vulnerable children, Samuel Omar, a 64-year-old man from Semilong, Northampton, has been linked to multiple serious sexual offenses involving minors.Initially, Omar was scheduled to face trial in May 2012 for the abuse of a 10-year-old girl. However, due to significant cutbacks in the number of trials held at Northampton Crown Court, his case was postponed until June 13 of the same year. This delay, as the prosecution argued, provided Omar with an unintended window of opportunity to commit further offenses.
Indeed, just four days before his scheduled trial, Omar was implicated in a heinous act involving a 12-year-old girl. He allegedly spiked her drink and sexually assaulted her, actions that have compounded the severity of his criminal record. Omar’s criminal history is extensive; he was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison in 1987 for the rape of a six-year-old girl. His latest arrest came in July 2011, after a 10-year-old girl reported that Omar had been touching and kissing her inappropriately when they were alone.
During police searches of Omar’s residence on Semilong Road, authorities uncovered disturbing evidence. Among the items found was a shrine composed of laminated photographs of his young victim, with her head superimposed onto the bodies of Page 3 models. This discovery underscored the disturbing nature of Omar’s obsession and the potential for further harm.
Despite being granted bail, Omar was scheduled to stand trial in May. However, when the case was adjourned, he did not cease his offending behavior. Instead, he targeted another young girl, this time a 12-year-old in Hemel Hempstead. Prosecutor James McLernon revealed that while Omar was on bail for the Northampton offenses and just a week before his trial was relisted, he committed another sexual assault.
On Saturday, June 9, paramedics responded to an emergency call at the victim’s address. The girl was found to be extremely intoxicated, and her condition was dire. When Omar attempted to leave the scene in his vehicle, the ambulance crew managed to block him in. Witnesses reported that the girl was incoherent and visibly distressed. It was later established that Omar had given her Fruit Shoots drinks laced with vodka before assaulting her sexually.
Omar subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and to making indecent images of children. His sentencing resulted in a sentence of imprisonment for public protection, with a minimum term of three years and three months before he could be considered for parole. Judge Sylvia De Bertodano emphasized the seriousness of his crimes, stating, “That does not mean you will be released then. You will only be released once a determination has been made you are no longer dangerous and that may be a very long time indeed.”
These events underscore the tragic consequences of judicial delays and the importance of robust measures to protect children from repeat offenders like Samuel Omar, whose actions have caused profound harm to multiple young victims in Northampton and beyond.
