ADDICT WHO STABBED 'DOMINEERING' BOYFRIEND TWICE HIS AGE IN DOMESTIC DISPUTE RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER
A drug-dependent man named Samuel Kelly was involved in an incident where he stabbed his 'domineering' boyfriend, who is more than twice his age, with a pair of scissors during a domestic dispute on New Year's Day.
Kelly had been in a relationship with the 48-year-old victim for four months, which had been established through a dating app.
The court was told that the victim was upset because Kelly was on the phone to his mother, a confrontation ensued, and Kelly approached him attempting to hit him with the phone.
Kelly then grabbed scissors from a coffee table and lunged towards the victim, making contact in the stomach.
The victim suffered a stab wound to his belly button but managed to push Kelly out of the house.
Despite Kelly’s claim that he threw the scissors rather than lunged with them, he was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a trial at Huddersfield court.
Kelly received a community order, including 25 days of rehabilitation and 300 hours of unpaid work, and a restraining order banning contact with the victim for two years.
He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation and £500 for damage to the victim’s car and door.
Kelly acknowledged that he has issues with alcohol and drugs but has taken steps to seek help and wants to move past this episode.
