CONTROLLING EX-BOYFRIEND JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDER AND HARASSMENT
A man named Sam Williams, residing on Oxford Road, was found guilty of breaching a non-molestation order after he visited his former partner's residence at 10pm on September 17, shouting that he wanted to see his daughter.
Despite being legally barred from contact and ordered to stay away from her address for a year by the family court in December 2022, Williams returned on September 23 at 9pm and refused to leave, causing his ex-partner to escape the following morning.
Prosecutor Fiona Cortese stated that Williams’s behavior included saying, "I have come here to nip it in the bud.
You are going to let me see my daughter.
I am not going through this any more." The court was told that he spent the night at that address before police arrested him after being contacted.
The victim described feeling terrified and worried for her safety and her daughter, revealing that Williams had bullied, threatened, and intimidated her on numerous occasions, leaving her feeling scared and vulnerable.
Court records indicated previous instances of controlling and coercive conduct by Williams, along with a history of disregarding court orders and making threats of violence.
He received a sentence of 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete rehabilitation activities and participate in a program aimed at improving relationships.
Additionally, a five-year restraining order was issued, barring him from contacting or approaching the victim’s home.
