A teenager from Dunfermline, Sam Smart, aged 18 and residing in Dover Park, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to be sentenced after admitting to multiple assaults on his partner over a period of nine months. The court was informed that between September 8 of the previous year and June 6 in Hillend, Smart repeatedly attacked his partner by hitting her with his fists, grabbing her with his nails, and pushing her to the ground, resulting in injuries. Depute fiscal Christine Allan explained that Smart struck his partner on her arms and legs during disputes, leaving bruising. The assaults came to light when a pupil support staff member at the victim’s school discovered signs of abuse and contacted the police. Defense solicitor Aime Allan stated that the incident served as a wake-up call for Smart, noting he was experiencing excessive alcohol consumption at the time and described him as 'coming across as a pleasant young man.' Sheriff Francis Gill highlighted the seriousness of the offenses, referencing issues with alcohol and anger management, and sentenced Smart to a community payback order with a 12-month supervision period.
