COTSWOLDS MAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER FOR DOWNLOADING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A 20-year-old man from the Cotswolds, Sam Righton of Old Farm, Dorn, Batsford, near Moreton in Marsh, was sentenced to a three-year community order for downloading indecent images of children.
He pleaded guilty to downloading three Category A images, the most serious, along with 96 Category B and 77 Category C images.
Prosecutor Harry Ahuja stated that police, acting on a tip from the National Crime Agency, executed a warrant at Righton's home.
The police found a laptop showing software designed to delete the images, which was shut down before completing its task.
Despite smashing his phone to prevent examination, police found his recent internet searches indicated awareness of impending police interest.
In interviews, Righton admitted to visiting a pornography website in 2017/18 and downloading the images, revealing he was sexually aroused by them but now regrets his actions.
The court imposed a three-year community order with 40 'programme days' and 100 hours of unpaid work, ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for five years, and placed a sexual harm prevention order restricting his internet use.
Additionally, he was fined £300 in court costs and a victim surcharge.
