MAN JAILED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RAPE CHILD
A man has received a prison sentence exceeding a decade after jurors convicted him of an attempted child rape.Ryan Williams, 37, from Hendre in Corwen, appeared in Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday morning for sentencing.
The court heard that he was found guilty following a trial of trying to rape a female child in the Wrexham area.
During the trial, Williams was acquitted on several other sexual offence allegations.
Prosecutor Simon Rogers presented a personal statement from the victim, who explained that the incident had led to significant mental health issues for her.
Defence barrister Myles Wilson emphasized that his client has a strong work ethic and a caring nature, asserting that Williams denies the charges and that what occurred was only an attempted act that was brief in duration.
Judge Timothy Petts addressed Williams, noting that his current denial of guilt is common among convicted sex offenders.
The judge remarked that rehabilitation efforts are unlikely at this point and ordered immediate imprisonment.
The judge also issued lifelong restraining orders to protect the victim and her family and mandated that Williams register as a sex offender for life.
Additionally, he was given a 25-year sexual harm prevention order.
In terms of sentencing, Judge Petts imposed an 11-year prison term coupled with a four-year extension on licence.
Williams is required to serve at least two-thirds of his custodial sentence before being eligible for parole consideration.
