RYAN WILKINSON JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTED YOUNG CHILD
A MAN who sexually assaulted a girl after sending “weird” messages requesting “naughty” pictures of her has been jailed for 14 months and must register as a sex offender for ten years.Ryan Wilkinson was said to be intoxicated with alcohol and cocaine when he asked the girl for photographs.
When she asked what kind of picture, he wrote: “Something naughty”.
He also asked the victim if she would “like something to happen” and whether she would like it if he touched “her ass”.
He made requests for her to show her body to him, and later sexually assaulted her.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Wilkinson, 42, of King’s Road, Crossflatts, told his victim not to say anything about their illicit conversations but the matter was reported after the girl confided in her mother that he had sent “weird” messages to her.
Wilkinson later handed himself in to police, telling them there was no sexual intention behind his messages.
In an interview he gave “no comment” answers.
In a statement, the victim said she had suffered from anxiety and her confidence had dropped as a result of her experiences, and that she had had counselling to cope with trauma.
In mitigation the court heard that Wilkinson had no previous convictions, had not offended since, but was struggling to come to terms with the full extent of his culpability.
He was said to be “genuinely devastated” by the impact his offending had had on the victim and his own family.
The court heard that he was affected by both alcohol and cocaine use at the time but had actively sought help to end his drug addiction and to undertake private therapy.
His mental health was described as “somewhat fragile”.
Mr Recorder David Gordon sentenced Wilkinson to 14 months for sexual assault plus eight months, to be served concurrently, for sexual communications with a child.
He was told to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was made the subject of a restraining order for the same period.
Recorder Gordon said: “It’s clear that the victim was a vulnerable young child.
She was clearly distressed by your behaviour … which has resulted in lasting emotional, social, and psychological harm.”
