HULL MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
Two men involved in Hull Fair last year have been sentenced for crimes related to child sexual offences.Ryan Edgar, aged 30, received a 20-year prison term after being found guilty of multiple charges, including sexual activity with a child, rape, assault by penetration, and two counts of assault.
The other, 19-year-old Ashley Phillips-Dawson, was sentenced to five years following his conviction on charges of assault and three sexual offences involving a minor.
Both men initially denied the allegations but were convicted after a trial held in November.
The court was told that Edgar and Phillips-Dawson befriended two teenage girls while working at the fair in October of the previous year.
Edgar reportedly asked the girls for nude photographs and persuaded them to return to his flat, which Phillips-Dawson also shared in Hull.
The girls were reported missing but were later found hiding in Edgar’s flat after he lied about their location.
Evidence showed that Edgar took one girl into his bedroom, where he raped her after pinning her down, while Phillips-Dawson sexually assaulted the other girl downstairs.
The investigation revealed that the two men subjected the girls to additional assaults and forced them to take cocaine.
Detective Constable Megan O'Meara, who spearheaded the inquiry, described the two men as 'sordid individuals' who 'exploited the vulnerability of two impressionable teenagers.' She praised the bravery of the victims and their families in coming forward and emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes.
Their sentencing took place at Grimsby Crown Court, with the court condemning their actions as deeply reprehensible and underscoring the dangerous impact such offenders can have on vulnerable young people.
