Witney Child Sexual Abuser
A pensioner from Witney has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years after being convicted on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of young girls. Roy Summers, who resides on Springfield Oval in Witney, faced a trial at Oxford Crown Court where he was charged with a total of 17 counts stemming from allegations of historic child sex offenses. Throughout the proceedings, Summers maintained his innocence, denying all accusations brought against him.

After a thorough trial, the jury found Summers guilty of abusing three young girls, whose identities are protected for legal reasons. The abuse reportedly took place during the 1990s and early 2000s, a period during which the victims were between the ages of four and thirteen. The court heard detailed accounts of the assaults, which occurred at various locations including Summers' residence, his vehicle, a shed, and even a bus where he was employed as a driver.

On Wednesday, February 7, the jury delivered their verdict, convicting Summers on eight counts of indecent assault, one count of indecency with a child, one count of rape of a child, one count of penetrative activity with a person under 16, one count of penetrative activity with a child, and one count of sexual activity. However, he was acquitted of three counts of indecent assault and one count of rape, indicating that the jury did not find sufficient evidence to convict on those charges.

During the trial, one of the victims bravely provided testimony, describing her experience with Summers. She recounted feeling paralyzed during the assault, saying, “I remember being like…I couldn’t move. It was like I was paralysed. I felt what he was doing but I couldn’t speak.”

Following the verdict, Summers was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, March 1, to serve 15 years in prison. Additionally, he received a 12-month extension, ensuring he remains incarcerated for a significant period to come. The case has drawn considerable attention due to the serious nature of the crimes and the impact on the victims involved.
