PAEDOPHILE AVOIDS JAIL AFTER 1,700 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN FOUND
A paedophile from Cornwall has avoided jail despite possessing over 1,700 indecent images of children spanning 16 years.
Roy Matthews, 61, from Pensilva, Liskeard, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple charges including distributing and making indecent images of children.
Police discovered the images following a National Crime Agency investigation that traced his IP address in 2024.
Some images were captured first-hand by Matthews himself, featuring young girls in public settings including supermarkets and shops.
The court heard Matthews had organised the images in a filing system on his computer according to the children's ages, with 32 printed copies also found at his home.
His Honour Judge Simon Carr described the case as "particularly worrying" and told Matthews: "You will present a risk to children for as long as you are alive." Defending barrister Jason Beal cited Matthews' poor health, loneliness and lack of previous convictions as mitigating factors.
Matthews received a 15-month prison sentence suspended for two years, a rehabilitation order, and was placed on the sex offenders register.
