ROWAN DICKINSON FROM DIDSBURY SENTENCED IN MANCHESTER FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND COMPUTER HACKING THREATS
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Didsbury, Rowan Dickinson, aged 26, has been handed a five-year prison sentence at Manchester Crown Court for a series of disturbing crimes involving the exploitation of young girls. Dickinson, a resident of Gaddum Road in Didsbury, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including 10 counts of creating indecent images of children and four counts of inciting minors to engage in sexual acts.Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Dickinson used the internet as a tool to target vulnerable young girls. He employed threats of hacking into their personal computers and threatening to release compromising files to their friends and family unless they submitted to his demands. The logs recovered from his electronic devices detailed explicit communications and threats, illustrating a pattern of predatory behavior aimed at coercing minors into sexual acts.
PC Sarah Collins, who was involved in the investigation, described Dickinson’s methods as predatory and manipulative. She stated, “Dickinson used the internet as a hunting ground and preyed on these young girls, threatening them until they gave in to his demands. This has been a long and tough investigation which has been quite emotionally draining for all involved. I hope the sentence passed today can go some way to giving the victims some closure.”
The police investigation was initiated in August 2013 after receiving intelligence about a man known as ‘James’ who had contacted a 13-year-old girl. He had asked her to perform sexual acts on webcam, claiming that in return, he would protect her from another user who intended to kidnap her and force her into prostitution. This disturbing communication prompted authorities to act.
Authorities managed to identify two victims, both 13 years old at the time of the offenses, who cooperated with the investigation. Their testimonies led officers to trace Dickinson’s whereabouts to an address in Didsbury. Upon arrest, several electronic devices were seized from his residence. Subsequent analysis uncovered numerous indecent images of children and logs of explicit exchanges with minors of various ages.
PC Collins expressed her appreciation for the victims and their families, acknowledging the emotional toll the case had taken. “I would like to pay tribute to the victims and their families who assisted us with this investigation. I know it was very tough for them but their help played a huge part in getting this sentence passed today.”
In addition to his prison term, Dickinson has been ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to protect children from online predators in the Didsbury area and beyond.
