ROSS MATHEWS FROM BRYNHYFRYD INVOLVED IN SEXUAL OFFENSES IN SWANSEA
In November 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Ross Paul Mathews, a man from Brynhyfryd, Swansea, who became the subject of serious criminal proceedings related to inappropriate conduct involving a minor.Mathews, aged 34 at the time, was found to have recorded himself engaging in a sexual act and subsequently sent the explicit footage to a schoolboy, raising significant concerns about child safety and exploitation.
During a court hearing at Swansea Crown Court, Mathews pleaded guilty to two charges of inciting the boy to view indecent images.
The court was informed that these offenses were committed in a context that deeply troubled the judicial authorities, given the nature of the material involved and the vulnerability of the recipient.
As part of the sentencing, Judge Geraint Walters imposed a custodial sentence of 10 months, which was suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, Mathews was ordered to undertake 15 days of rehabilitation, emphasizing the court’s focus on both punishment and the potential for reform.
The court proceedings revealed that Mathews had severed all ties with St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, indicating a possible attempt to distance himself from his previous associations amid the scandal.
The prosecution, led by Catherine Richards, clarified that the victim, the schoolboy, had not formally lodged a complaint.
Instead, the boy had shown the explicit footage to two girls, who then confided in their mother about the incident.
Judge Walters commented on the case, remarking that Mathews had lost everything due to what he described as “a few moments of madness,” highlighting the severe consequences of his actions and the irreversible damage caused by his misconduct.
