DENTIST JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT
A dentist received a 15-month imprisonment after being found guilty of a sexual assault against a woman.Roger Klein, aged 42 and residing on Lady Acre Close in Lymm, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on the preceding Friday.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty on July 23, following an incident that took place in Lymm on April 13, 2009.
The court was informed that Klein, who operated the Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice in Knutsford, forcibly held a 37-year-old woman down on her bed and pressed himself against her after misinterpreting her signals of flirtation.
According to the court, the event occurred when Klein asked the woman to assist him with leaflet delivery and went to collect her from her home.
Upon arrival, the woman allowed him inside but headed upstairs, citing that she needed to retrieve her shoes and style her hair.
Klein followed her into the bedroom, where he approached her and placed his hand between her legs after pushing her onto the bed.
The woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, claimed Klein forced himself on her despite her ongoing efforts to push him away.
During the trial, defense lawyer Ayla Lewis stated that Klein denied the allegations and suggested that the woman had fabricated a malicious lie.
She also mentioned that a week prior to the incident, the woman had engaged in flirtatious behavior towards Klein.
The woman had called Klein during an evening in Manchester and been flirtatious on several occasions, which Klein misinterpreted as a desire for sexual activity.
In sentencing, Judge Martin Rudland acknowledged that the phone conversations were flirtatious but did not suggest anything beyond that.
He noted Klein’s professionalism and reputation as a hardworking family man caring for his son and stepdaughter.
Nonetheless, the judge said that the flirtatious calls appeared to spark thoughts of a sexual adventure in Klein’s mind, influencing his actions when he approached her home that morning.
The judge also mentioned that Klein is expected to serve approximately six months of his 15-month sentence.
