ROBIN TEAGUE FROM DRYBROOK SENTENCED FOR SORDID SEXUAL LIAISON WITH TEENAGE GIRL IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE
In July 2009, Robin Teague, a man from Drybrook, found himself in the dock at Gloucester Crown Court facing serious allegations related to a disturbing sexual relationship with a teenage girl. The court heard that Teague, aged 40, engaged in a series of inappropriate and illegal acts with the minor, which included both consensual sexual intercourse and a subsequent sexual act performed on her. These acts followed a period of explicit communication via text messages exchanged between the two, some of which contained sexually explicit content.According to the prosecution, Robert Davies, Teague's actions took place over a three-day period in December of the previous year. The court was informed that the relationship began with consensual sex just before Christmas, and a few days later, Teague performed a sexual act on the girl. The court also heard that the girl, after feeling upset and confused about what had transpired, confided in someone else about the incidents.
Teague was arrested following an investigation into the matter. During police interviews, he admitted to the two sex offences involving the girl. It was revealed that Teague had prior convictions unrelated to this case, which added to the seriousness of the proceedings. Throughout the hearing, Teague appeared visibly shaken, wearing a blue and white striped top, and was noted to be trembling as he listened to the court proceedings.
Prosecutor Robert Davies emphasized that Teague, given his greater maturity, should have taken responsibility for his actions. The court was also told that the communication between Teague and the girl included sexually explicit messages, which underscored the inappropriate nature of their relationship.
Joe Maloney, representing Teague, expressed his client's remorse, stating that Teague was deeply embarrassed and sorry for what had occurred. Maloney highlighted that Teague's life had been significantly disrupted by the events and the subsequent legal process.
Judge William Hart described the relationship as a 'sordid sexual liaison' of a despicable nature. However, he acknowledged that the activities were consensual and noted that the girl also bore a significant degree of responsibility in the situation. Ultimately, the judge sentenced Teague to a three-year community order, which included three years of supervision. Additionally, Teague was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for five years and to participate in the Thames Valley Sex Offenders' Programme, reflecting the court's concern for public safety and offender rehabilitation.
