ROBIN SCHREIBER FROM LIVINGSTON JAILED FOR FILMING SEX IN FRONT OF TODDLER AND SUPPLYING GHB

In June 2010, a disturbing case involving a Livingston-based drug dealer and convicted sex offender came to light, revealing a series of heinous acts that shocked the local community and the wider public. Robin Schreiber, aged 38, who previously served as a soldier, was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple serious charges.

Schreiber’s criminal activities included the distribution of dangerous substances such as GHB, commonly known as the date-rape drug, and amphetamine, which he supplied to teenage girls and friends at social gatherings held at his residence in Livingston. His illicit dealings reportedly began after he moved into the property in June 2003 and continued until his arrest in April of the following year. Prosecutors, led by Advocate depute Bruce Erroch, detailed how Schreiber’s drug distribution network operated within his local community, with the drugs being handed out at parties and social events.

Beyond his involvement with illegal substances, Schreiber’s criminal record is marred by allegations of violent and indecent behavior. He admitted to assaulting his partner, Arlene Gerchie, during their tumultuous relationship, which was characterized by volatility and frequent conflicts. The assault included slapping her face, and he also performed indecent acts in front of a young boy, which involved sexually explicit behavior in the child's presence. Furthermore, Schreiber was accused of pouring a can of lager over another romantic partner and injuring her eye during an altercation, adding to the list of his violent conduct.

One of the most disturbing aspects of Schreiber’s crimes was the discovery of over 1,200 video recordings found during a police search of his Livingston home following the death of Arlene Gerchie. The footage included graphic and disturbing scenes of sexual acts, some involving a young child, who was reportedly an 18-month-old boy. Among the videos was a particularly shocking clip depicting a sexual act involving a hammer, with Schreiber heard saying to the young boy, “I hope this doesnae scar you for life, wee man.”

Schreiber’s relationship with Ms. Gerchie was also scrutinized, especially after her death in January of the previous year. It was believed that she died from an overdose of GHB, and authorities suspected Schreiber of being responsible for supplying her with the fatal dose. Despite these suspicions, Schreiber had previously been cleared of killing Ms. Gerchie, and several other charges against him were dropped due to the death or incapacitation of key witnesses.

During the sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lady Stacey emphasized the gravity of Schreiber’s actions. She pointed out that his remark to the young boy, “I hope this doesnae scar you for life, wee man,” demonstrated a disturbing awareness of the potential long-term impact of his conduct on the child. The judge underscored the seriousness of the case, reflecting on the profound harm caused by Schreiber’s criminal behavior and the need for a strong judicial response to such heinous crimes.
