ROBIN HONEYSETT CAUGHT IN NORTH CHAILEY AFTER DRIVING 330 MILES TO MEET 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN LEWES

In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and the perils faced by minors, Robin Honeysett, a 49-year-old man from North Chailey near Lewes, was caught attempting to travel a staggering 330 miles to meet a girl he believed was only 13 years old. The incident unfolded in July of the previous year, revealing a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

Honeysett-Mayes had engaged in an online conversation with what he thought was a young girl named Alisha, using the Kik Messenger app. Unbeknownst to him, he was actually communicating with a group of paedophile hunters who had set up a sting operation. Despite this, Honeysett-Mayes was determined to carry out his plans and had even checked to ensure that the girl’s mother would be out of the house when he arrived, indicating premeditation and intent.

During the chat, the man attempted to groom the girl by steering the conversation toward sexual topics and revealing his own inappropriate fantasies. The conversation quickly turned sexual, with Honeysett-Mayes asking numerous personal and intimate questions. He inquired about her previous sexual experiences and expressed preferences for girls in short skirts and school uniforms. At one point, he asked when her mother would be returning home, and explicitly stated that he did not want anyone to interrupt him while he was with her.

He also instructed her on what to wear, and when she disclosed that she had no prior sexual experience, he responded ominously, saying, “Well tomorrow is going to be an experience for you then.” Evidence suggests that Honeysett-Mayes had removed his wedding ring during the journey, possibly to avoid identification or suspicion.

When he arrived at the designated meeting point, he was met by the paedophile hunters, who promptly handed over the evidence to the police. Authorities then conducted a search of his residence in North Chailey, where they uncovered disturbing material on his computer. Among the illicit content were images of girls aged between eight and ten, as well as girls aged between 12 and 14. Additionally, police found extreme pornographic images depicting women engaged in sexual acts with animals, further illustrating the depravity of his online activity.

Following the investigation, Honeysett-Mayes was brought before Hove Crown Court. District Judge Roger Chapple sentenced him to 12 months in prison for attempting to meet a child under the age of 16 with the intent to commit sexual activity, following grooming behavior. The court also imposed two concurrent sentences of eight weeks each for possessing Category B and Category C images of children, reflecting the severity of his offenses and the danger he posed to the community.
