ROBERT WYNN'S REPEATED OFFENSES IN HULL: A SERIAL SEX OFFENDER'S CONTINUOUS DEFY OF COURT ORDERS
A deeply troubling case involving Robert Wynn, a man with a long history of sexual offenses, has culminated in his latest imprisonment after he repeatedly violated court-imposed restrictions aimed at safeguarding the public. Wynn, aged 38 and residing on Brecon Avenue in east Hull, has demonstrated a disturbing pattern of behavior characterized by an apparent addiction to viewing and possessing extreme images involving animals, despite numerous previous convictions and prison sentences.Hull Crown Court heard that Wynn had been subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order issued by Hull magistrates in November 2022. This order was intended to restrict his access to certain types of material and prevent further offenses. However, Wynn’s actions showed blatant disregard for these legal restrictions. Following his release from prison, authorities conducted a monitoring visit on January 1, 2023, at the bail hostel where Wynn was residing. During this check, an unregistered phone was discovered in his possession. Further investigation revealed that Wynn had deleted his internet history between December 27 and 28, 2022, but police found 13 extreme images of bestiality stored on his device. An examination of Wynn’s phone on March 28, 2022, uncovered an additional eight such images.
Further breaches of the order occurred when police attempted to contact Wynn on April 14, 2022. His father reported that Wynn was untraceable at that time. The following day, authorities found that Wynn had failed to charge his electronic monitoring device, causing it to stop transmitting signals—another violation of the court order. These repeated breaches highlight Wynn’s persistent refusal to adhere to restrictions designed to prevent him from reoffending.
Wynn’s criminal record is extensive, with 15 prior convictions, including five for possessing indecent or extreme images. His criminal history includes a two-year sentence in November 2011 for making indecent images of children and possessing extreme images. He also served time in 2014 for breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and in 2016, he was jailed for four months for similar offenses. In 2017, Wynn received a 16-month sentence at Hull Crown Court for possessing indecent images of children and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. His pattern of violations continued with a two-year and four-month sentence in May 2018 for breaching a sexual harm prevention order and notification requirements. Most recently, in 2021, Wynn was sentenced to two years and eight months for failing to comply with his notification obligations as a sex offender.
During the sentencing hearing, defense lawyer Ben Hammersley acknowledged Wynn’s problematic history, stating that his client had an “unenviable record for sexual offenses” and expressing remorse. “He would like to apologise for his actions,” Hammersley said. “He is deeply, deeply sorry for his persistent breaches of his notification requirements. He has been doing well. There has been no further offending. He realises that there are issues that need to be seriously addressed if he is to be prevented from offending in the future. He has not been in work for a long period.”
However, the presiding judge, Mark Bury, was unequivocal in his assessment. He emphasized Wynn’s apparent addiction to images of bestiality and his continued efforts to conceal his activities. “He appears to be addicted to images of bestiality and he persists in looking at them,” the judge remarked. He criticized Wynn for his repeated failure to learn from past court orders, which are meant to protect society. “You are not learning your lessons. Sexual harm prevention orders are there for a purpose. They are to try to prevent you from looking at images which are prohibited,” Judge Bury stated. “You seem to be addicted, or certainly were, to those types of images. You went to quite a number of lengths to disguise that.”
The judge further condemned Wynn’s ongoing disregard for the law, noting that his actions demonstrated a lack of respect for court rulings and a continued prioritization of personal gratification over societal safety. “The time has come when you have to be punished and deterred because, at the moment, you are just not learning lessons. Time and again, you take no notice of court orders, which are meant to protect society at large, and the reason you don't is that you have your own sexual gratification at the forefront of your thoughts,” he concluded.
As a result of these repeated violations and his ongoing dangerous behavior, Wynn was sentenced to an additional three years in prison, effectively reinforcing the seriousness of his offenses and the need for strict punishment to prevent further harm.
