ROBERT WAUD'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN ABERDEEN
In January 2012, a disturbing case involving an RAF corporal named Robert Waud came to light in Aberdeen, highlighting the serious issue of child exploitation and the consequences faced by those involved.Waud, aged 38, was found to be in possession of indecent images of children at his residence on Maberly Street in Aberdeen.
The case unfolded after a man to whom Waud had sent an inappropriate image reported the matter to the police, prompting an investigation that ultimately led to Waud's arrest and court appearance.
During the proceedings at Aberdeen's sheriff court, Waud admitted to charges of taking or allowing the taking of indecent images of children, as well as distributing such images.
The court heard that these actions were committed at his home in Aberdeen, a city known for its vibrant community but also, unfortunately, for cases involving serious criminal conduct.
In response to his admissions, Sheriff Annella Cowan sentenced Waud to a fine of £4,500.
Additionally, she ordered that he be registered as a sex offender for a period of five years, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities in the future.
The court also noted that Waud was now subject to an internal investigation by the Royal Air Force, which is standard procedure in cases involving military personnel accused of serious crimes.
Sheriff Cowan acknowledged the gravity of the offences, stating, "Matters have been hanging over this man’s head for two years, during which time he has continued to serve conscientiously." She pointed out that the bail conditions had prevented Waud from working abroad, which limited his ability to perform the full range of his duties.
Despite the seriousness of child pornography, the sheriff emphasized the importance of maintaining a useful role within the armed forces, suggesting that rehabilitation and continued service could be considered if circumstances allow.
Waud's offences, committed at his residence in Aberdeen, have cast a shadow over his career and raised concerns about the presence of such criminal behavior within the military community.
The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from harm.
