2015: SON OF FORMER ARSENAL FOOTBALLER ROBERT WADE JAILED FOR THREE YEARS AFTER ADMITTING INDECENT ASSAULT
The son of former Arsenal and Hereford United footballer Joe Wade has been jailed for three years for historic sex offences.
Robert Wade appeared at Hereford Crown Court last Friday after earlier admitting before city magistrates to two charges of indecent assault.
The court heard how Wade, 61, of Hampton Dene, Hereford, abused the victim when she was a teenager.
Ian Windridge, prosecuting, said the victim, who is now an adult, suffered from mental health issues as a result of the assaults.
Wade initially denied any sexual touching in a police interview but the court heard that he phoned police the following day to request a second interview where he gave a full confession.
Nigel Stelling, defending, said he hoped the victim could now move on in a “real and constructive” way after Wade had admitted the offences.
Judge Daniel Pierce-Higgins sentenced Wade to an immediate custodial sentence of three years in prison.
He also served Wade, whose father died in 2005 aged 84, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
