In February 2019, Robert Twaites of Kirkby Lonsdale was caught by a paedophile hunting team for his online activities involving children.

Twaites appeared in court, admitting multiple charges related to online grooming of minors.

The court was told that Twaites had contacted profiles he believed belonged to schoolgirls, engaging in highly sexualised conversations.

Twaites stated that he intended to tie up both the 13- and 14-year-old girls and take one to an industrial estate in Chesterfield to assault her.

He also said he would take the other into the woods and do “50 shades of grey” with her.

It was revealed that the girls did not exist and were actually adult members of a paedophile hunting team who confronted Twaites at his workplace.

Following the confrontation, police were called, and Twaites was arrested.

The judge sentenced Twaites to a three-year community order, a 90-hour rehabilitation course, and an £85 victim surcharge.

Additionally, he was ordered to register on the sex offenders register for five years and to comply with a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
