MAN WHO DEMANDED PARTNER PUT BABY DOWN SO HE COULD PUNCH HER IS JAILED
A man responsible for a prolonged pattern of abuse against his partner, during which he demanded she place their baby on the floor so he could physically assault her, has received a prison sentence.Robert Taylor, aged 39 and residing on Annesley Close in Sawtry, threatened to kill his girlfriend while cornering her with their nine-month-old child in a room.
His violent outburst occurred while he was intoxicated, and he was only restrained after his mother entered the home and intervened.
Following the incident, the victim reported the assault to the police, leading to Taylor's arrest the next day, on 15 May.
Authorities from Cambridgeshire Police stated that Taylor’s violence increased over several months, creating a climate of fear for his partner of three years and their children.
Over time, Taylor displayed escalating aggressive behavior, including a March 2 incident where he brandished a kitchen knife and pressed it against the victim’s back while instructing her to prepare dinner in front of the children.
Two months earlier, during a drunken argument, he had pushed and shouted at her, verbally threatening harm.
In September of the previous year, Taylor punched a banister during a dispute, then aimed a punch at his partner, which he diverted to the wall, breaking it.
He also expressed frustration when the baby’s crying disturbed him, accusing her of inadequate care.
At a prior hearing, Taylor admitted to engaging in controlling and coercive behavior.
On Monday, 19 December, at Peterborough Crown Court, he was sentenced to 16 months behind bars and received a two-year restraining order to prevent further contact with his partner.
