West Bowling Child Sexual Abuser
In July 2020, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving Robert Reeday, a man from West Bowling, who was ultimately convicted of multiple serious offences related to child sexual exploitation. The incident was the result of a covert operation conducted by the organization Angels of Innocence, which specializes in exposing online predators.

Reeday, aged 43 and residing on Birch Lane in West Bowling, was apprehended at a bus stop on Parkside Road after he had arranged to meet what he believed was a ten-year-old girl named Sienna for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity. The operation was set in motion when a member of Angels of Innocence posed as a young girl on an internet chat site, creating a profile as Sienna. Reeday, under the alias Robbie96, initiated contact in February of the previous year, and the conversation quickly took a disturbing turn.

According to the court proceedings, Reeday instructed the fictitious child on how to masturbate, sent her a photograph of his genitals, and extended an invitation for her to visit his home for sex. He provided her with his address and details of bus routes leading to his residence. The police were alerted and, during the sting, Reeday was found waiting at the designated bus stop, where he was promptly detained.

Further investigation of his home revealed incriminating evidence, including a pair of pink children's knickers and a mobile phone containing indecent images of children, one of which was classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child abuse material. Reeday was also found to be in breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order issued by Bradford Crown Court in July 2017, which prohibited him from possessing or making indecent images of children. At the time of his arrest, he was on prison licence, adding to the gravity of his violations.

Reeday denied all allegations, claiming that the police had planted the pink knickers to frame him. During psychiatric assessment, he reported hearing voices in his head laughing, suggesting possible mental health issues. His legal representative, Kate Riekstina, highlighted that Reeday had been placed on suicide watch multiple times while in Leeds Prison and had endured bullying and the theft of his false teeth during incarceration. She argued that since no actual child was involved in the incident, no real harm had been caused.

However, the presiding judge, Jonathan Gibson, emphasized the premeditated nature of Reeday’s actions, noting the significant grooming and planning involved. The court observed the stark age disparity between Reeday and the fictitious child, underscoring the seriousness of his intent. As a result, Reeday was sentenced to six years in prison, with an extended two-year licence period due to the substantial risk he posed to the public. He will serve approximately two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.

In addition to his prison term, Reeday is subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and is required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the ongoing concern for public safety and the protection of children from individuals like him.
