64-YEAR-OLD MAN JAILED FOR STALKING, THREATS AND ASSAULT
A former boyfriend who stalked and threatened his ex-partner faced sentencing after a series of alarming actions in February.Robert Neil Tamblyn, aged 64, admitted to installing a tracking device on the victim’s car, verbally threatening her in front of her children, and physically assaulting her.
Tamblyn, residing on Gotch Gardens in East Taphouse, had previously pleaded guilty to harassment, actual bodily harm, and making threats to kill.
He appeared before Truro Crown Court on March 22 for sentencing.
The court was told that Tamblyn had used a GPS tracker to follow his victim and had left flowers on her vehicle between February 1 and 4, despite her never revealing her location.
On February 3, he went to her home, threatened to pour petrol and set her house ablaze, and assaulted her.
That same day, he also made threats of shooting her, her new partner, and then himself.
These threats were made in front of children and involved significant violence.
During a victim impact statement read from the witness box, the woman described feeling terrified for her future due to Tamblyn’s behavior.
She expressed concern that he might harm her children or seek retribution against her in the future.
Addressing the court, she explained that her fear persisted and that she felt unable to protect herself.
In mitigation, Tamblyn expressed remorse, stating that he did not intend to visit her or cause harm.
He maintained that although his threats were serious, they were idle, and he acknowledged that there should be no further contact.
He understood the relationship was over.
Sentencing judge Recorder John Trevaskis acknowledged the early plea and noted the victim’s detailed statement, describing Tamblyn’s conduct as "quite simply appalling." The judge emphasized that the threats to kill were credible and violent, and that the victim deserved reassurance about her safety and future wellbeing.
Tamblyn was sentenced to 15 months in prison, with a 25% reduction for his guilty plea.
Additionally, a restraining order was issued for ten years, prohibiting him from contacting the victim, her partner, children, or entering an area around her residence.
