Robert McWhir, a 25-year-old man from St Neots, has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his on-again, off-again partner, Marissa Aldrich, who was 29 years old at the time of her death. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing incident that took place last December near a pond in St Neots, where the tragic event unfolded.

According to court reports, the confrontation between McWhir and Ms Aldrich escalated into a physical struggle that ended with him forcibly holding her head underwater. Witnesses described the scene as a heated argument that devolved into a physical altercation, culminating in McWhir's alleged attempt to drown her in the pond. McWhir later claimed that he had a phobia of water and that during the struggle, both of them fell into the pond, and he had tried to climb over her to escape.
