ROBERT LISHMAN CAUGHT IN WINDERMERE WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES DURING POLICE RAID
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Windermere, police officers executed a raid on the residence of Robert Lishman in February 2020 after gathering intelligence about his involvement in the possession of illegal images.The authorities arrived at his home on Birkfield Road to find him actively engaged in downloading more illicit material, which was a shocking revelation during the arrest.
Robert Lishman, aged 37, was immediately apprehended at the scene.
He was later charged and admitted to making indecent photographs of children, a serious offense that drew significant attention from the court.
The case was brought before Carlisle Crown Court, where the details of the investigation were laid bare.
During the search, law enforcement officials seized a USB device along with two mobile phones belonging to Lishman.
Forensic analysis revealed that these devices contained over 800 images and videos depicting child sexual abuse.
The material was categorized into various levels of severity, with more than a third classified as Category A, indicating the most serious and disturbing content.
Among these were images of children as young as two years old, highlighting the heinous nature of the material involved.
It was also disclosed that Lishman’s most recent download had commenced merely 24 minutes before the police arrived at his home.
Shockingly, the downloading activity continued throughout the arrest process, indicating an ongoing attempt to acquire more illicit content even as officers were present.
Judge Recorder Philip Grundy described the collection of images as “harrowing,” emphasizing the severity of the offense.
Despite the gravity of the case, the court acknowledged that Lishman had taken steps towards rehabilitation by voluntarily seeking professional help from organizations such as the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and Turning Leaf support service.
In sentencing, the court handed down a 14-month prison term, suspended for two years, considering his efforts to seek help and his willingness to address his behavior.
Additionally, Lishman was ordered to complete a comprehensive rehabilitation program, register as a sex offender for the next ten years, and adhere to a strict sexual harm prevention order, underscoring the ongoing risk and the need for strict supervision.
