A man from Dolgellau, Wales, identified as Robert James, has seen a reduction in his prison sentence following an appeal related to charges of attempting to incite child pornography.

James, aged 31, was initially sentenced to 18 months in prison for his actions, which involved online grooming and solicitation of what he believed to be underage girls.

According to court records, James had engaged in a series of online interactions with two young girls, during which he posed as a Californian law student.

His intent appeared to be to persuade or coerce the girls into engaging in illegal activities related to child exploitation.

However, the court noted that James did not persist in his requests and believed the girls to be adults, which influenced the decision to reduce his sentence.

The Court of Appeal took into account James’s limited engagement in criminal activity, as well as his history of mental health issues, which may have impacted his behavior.

The original sentence of 18 months was therefore reduced to approximately eight months, reflecting a more lenient view of his culpability.

Legal authorities emphasized that while James’s actions were serious, his overall conduct and mental health background played a role in the appellate court’s decision.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about online grooming and the importance of addressing mental health factors in criminal sentencing.
