ROBERT HANDLEY FROM FAIRBAIRN – PORKELLIS CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT PICTURES AND EXTREME ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY
In August 2013, a man from Porkellis, identified as Robert Handley-Fairbairn, faced serious criminal charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images involving minors and extreme pornography featuring animals. The case was heard at Truro Crown Court, where the defendant admitted to multiple counts of possessing indecent photographs of children as well as possessing extreme pornography involving animals.According to court reports, police executed a search warrant at Handley-Fairbairn’s residence in Porkellis after receiving a tip-off about his activities. During the search, officers discovered a collection of images depicting young girls as young as eight years old. The authorities revealed that the images were stored on his computer, raising significant concerns about the exploitation of minors.
Elaine Hobson, representing the Crown Prosecution Service, provided detailed information about the extent of Handley-Fairbairn’s online activities. She stated that he possessed more than 1,500 extreme pornographic images, which included explicit content involving adult women and animals such as dogs and horses. The images depicted acts of bestiality, which are considered highly illegal and morally reprehensible.
During police interviews, Handley-Fairbairn explained that his interest in such material was linked to personal health issues. He claimed that he had contracted shingles, which adversely affected his sex life, and that he turned to these images for stimulation. The court was informed that his primary focus appeared to be on the adult animal pornography rather than the images involving children.
In his defense, Lucy Bryant highlighted that Handley-Fairbairn led a very isolated life and did not confide in his partner or friends about his problems. She expressed that he was remorseful and viewed the proceedings as a wake-up call that he might not have otherwise received.
Judge Christopher Harvey Clark, QC, presided over the case and sentenced Handley-Fairbairn to a community order lasting three years, with a requirement for two years of supervision by the probation service. The judge commented on the ease of access to such material via the internet and expressed approval of government efforts to curb online pornography.
Judge Clark also remarked that he considered Handley-Fairbairn to be a decent and proud man, and that part of his punishment involved the public nature of court proceedings, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes and the importance of accountability.
